What this site records about its visitors, why, and for how long.

Updated

This is a personal reading site. It has no sign-up, login, forms or comments, and it was built to collect as little as possible about its visitors.

What this site does not use

  • Cookies: none, neither first-party nor third-party.
  • Audience analytics and ads: no Google Analytics, pixels, trackers or advertising.
  • Third-party resources: every page, font, image and script is served from this domain. Opening a page sends nothing to other companies.

What stays in your browser

If you switch between the light and dark themes, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage (localStorage, key theme). It is never sent to the server, and you can delete it by clearing this site's data in your browser.

What the server records

Like any web server, this one records each request it receives, to keep the site secure and working. Each record contains:

  • date and time;
  • IP address;
  • the page requested, including URL parameters;
  • browser and operating system (the user-agent your browser reports);
  • the referring page, when your browser reports it;
  • the response status, processing time and a reference code for the request.

Purpose: detecting and blocking abuse and attacks, limiting excessive requests and investigating errors. This data is not used for profiling, is not sold and is not combined with other sources.

Legal basis: legitimate interest (art. 7, IX, of Brazil's LGPD), limited to the site's security and operation.

How long:

  • access records are deleted automatically by the hosting provider at the end of its retention period, currently 7 days;
  • the counter used to limit excessive requests keeps the IP for at most 1 hour.

Who processes this data

  • Render (United States): hosts the site and stores the access records.
  • Cloudflare (United States): network Render uses to deliver the pages and protect them against attacks.

This means the data may be processed outside Brazil, under these providers' contractual safeguards (art. 33 of the LGPD).

The share buttons and social media links are plain links: nothing is sent to those services until you click. After you click, each service's own privacy policy applies.

Your rights

You can request confirmation, access, correction or deletion of your data, among the other rights in art. 18 of the LGPD, by writing to contato@joaoataide.com. Since the records carry no names, include your IP address and the approximate date and time of your visit. If an error page showed you a reference code, include it too.
